"China is preparing to celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of the policy of openness": here is a short list of important dates.

1978 Deng Xiaoping launches the process of economic reform.

1992 Economic reform re-launched and China’s entry into globalization accelerated.

2001 China adheres to the WTO after fifteen years of negotiation as an emerging country.

2007 Foreign direct investments in China total 82.66 billion dollars in 2007, a 18.8% rise over one year.

Chinese direct investments abroad total 19.3 billion dollars during the first term of 2008, four times as much as in the same period in 2007.

2008 Inflation reaches 8.7% in the twelve months to February, a record level over the last ten years or more. It concerns almost exclusively food products, the prices of which soared by 23% on average. For some products like meat or fresh vegetable, the hike reached nearly 50% in one year.
